Shaggy – Stand Up 0

Donna Summer is dead. Here’s some dancehall instead. Shaggy, best known for his commercial smashes has got a load of more “credible” tracks in his back catalogue. Among them this heavy dancehall chugger from his 2004 Clothes Drop album sampling Keith and Tex /The Spanishtonians. To be fair, the rest of the album is bollocks.

Mooqee – Supacat Police 0

ALL STAR REGGAE MASH Okay, I got one:Cutty Ranks, Bob Marley and KRS ONE walk into a bar, right. The joke unfolds with hilarious consequences. Unless the barman happens to be gay then it’s really not going to end well.

Jstar – Hot Sleng Dub Plate 0

RED HOT MASH UP – A superb mash of Mims “This Is Why I’m Hot” and King Jammy’s “Sleng Teng” dancehall standard which, allegedly , was the first ever synthesised reggae riddim ever cut to vinyl. King Jammy was hot and continues to be hot. Mims however was total cunt and that’s not changed either.

Spice and Pinchers – Rude Boy Love 0

REGGAE DANCEHALL SMASH Turn on Breakfast radio in the UK and you’re subjected to Robbie Hurry-Up-And-Die-On-The-Toilet Williams or the latest smudge from the talent show cunt-cannons. In Barbados you tune in the radio before sunrise and get classic Reggae dancehall. No wonder everyone is so happy.

Flourgon and Ninjaman – Zig It Up 0

DANCEHALL CLASSIC- Out of all musical genres Reggae Dancehall artists take the biscuit when it comes to fucking stupid stage monikers: Beenie Man, General Degree, Vybz Cartel, Super Cat…Flourgon?….Ninjaman?……
They may have daft names but every single one of them can:
A: Have you shot
B: Have you shot again (for being gay)
C: Tear up your soundsystem.

“Like a harse dem gallup”

Groove Armada – Shameless Dub (by Tim Love Lee) 0

SUNDAY DUBZ – Jah Bless? Jobless. The long standing Tummy Touch label are rolling out an album of back catalogue dubs for your bunnin’ enjoyment. Ever wonder what music would be coming out of Jamaica if instead of Hemp a coca plant had sprung on the tomb of King Solomon?
Probably some gnarly hardcore. Yardie-core?

The Specials – Ghost Town 0

London is fucked. Can’t help but feel an impending sense of doom amongst all this.
On the upside if the riots do turn over the high street I might get involved and raid Krispy Kreme.

Fugees – Ready Or Not (Blood & Fire mix) 0

Living in a massive, pikey van has its benefits:  Surf trips, raves, moving the entire contents of peoples houses. But it also gets me roped into loads of shit. I got booked to play at Latitude Festival this weekend for the awesome Disco Shed . Which is exactly what it sounds like – a garden shed with some decks and a big sound system.  This years its’ a bloody great big sound system which I have to pack  into the back of my pikey wagon and drive across the whole of the country to fucking Norfolk. All part of the festival magic.

Here’s the shed,look….it’s pretty cool.

I’ve been told to pack a soldering iron and Fluke meter so fuck knows what’s going to happen when I fire up this rig.

It’s going to be a FUN weekend as I’m playing along side Trol 23 and Count Skylarkin, purveyors of the finest dancehall, reggae and rocksteady 7s known to all man kind.

Many moons ago they introduced me to the Nice Up! label, here’s one of the billion dancehall boots you can pick up from mister Nice Up’s mister Shepdog…

If you’re heading to Latitude, I’ll be the one DJ ing in a garden shed that looks like he’s been up way past his bedtime. Nice Up!. And ting. Remember the ting.

Gwen McRae – 90% Of Me Is You 0

A late night of crate digging offered up this slice of soulful serendipity and it’s been sunny ever since. Alliteration aside -hmmm- here’s the soundtrack to your balmy afternoon lounging in the July sunshine. This came to my attention through the Dynamics cover on the King Midas Sound Fact Mix which is well worth searching out if your in the market for vibes so laid back you’re upside down.
