SOCA JUMP UP Dance music isn’t really tickling my balls this evening so I’m digging my way through the links to find anything of interest and KAPOW ,some mad as all fuckery Soca complete with low budget video! For the uninitiated Soca is SOul CAlypso, the contraction of two words which seems to an etymological habit of Trinidadians. This track “Palance” is a contraction of PArty, Lime and dANCE (lime= hanging out)

Judging by the camera work I think this might have been filmed by Mohammed Ali on a unicycle. Lucky that the images they did manage to fit in the shot are piss take, you really wouldn’t want to have to do this twice.

Soca is weird, I don’t really get unless I’m smashed on rum and waving a Western Union bandana. Of all the synth noises available in the world why choose the sound from the theme to Fun House?

If you ever get chance to catch DJ Derek you really should drop everything and go have a wiggle to his record collection – My Baby Just Cares For Me is a regular fixture and it’s really quite something to hear it played at peak time. GUARANTEED to make the place properly swing and “draw nuff gash” onto the dancefloor.

This track has been in my collection since Mother dearest forced me to listen to it, and it wasn’t til I heard Derek drop it that I realised just what a stupendous piece of music it was for playing to a crowd. ‘Ave it Derek.

The humble website of The North East Beast is a gold mine of music so credible and mature that I may as well just cut off my fucking ears and flush them right down the shit-bend. This a blogspot that is run clearly for the joy of sharing music and broadening musical horizons. The curator , Joe Whimster clearly spends an unhealthy amount of time up to his elbows in 45′s and is more than happy to share with the world the gems he unearths.

An amazing education in musical genre’s I simply know nothing about, North East Beast is a hearty recommendation to anyone looking to freshen up their heads with soul,funk, garage (not that kind) and obscure releases that the planet missed.

I had the good fortune of stumbling into this awesome 7″ of scratchy soul which I look forward to playing and giving the impression I harbour an extensive collectionof obscure 45′s .

CLASSIC G-FUNK SAMPLER - Snoop Dogg and Dre didn’t even touch this. Dre just pumped it straight into his cop-killing hit-making machine and Snoop dizelled his shizzle over the top. BRAP BRAP side action on my gat and it’s G’s And Hustlas .

Can’t help but feel increasingly hard done by, as youth I was pretty sure that Dre was some kind of musical prophet – conjuring amazing riffs and bass from the ether. Then I realised he just happened to have a comprehensive Parliament and George Clinton collection.

Nonetheless as a fat,pubescent weed-smoking brat I thought I was at the cutting edge listening to this. I’d rob mopeds, start fires and peddle shit weed thinking I was well gangsta. Then I played it to my mum, she knew it was a sample…did I believe her? Did I fuck. I went out and capped some niggaz and refused to tidy up my mother fucking bedroom.
