As the year draws to a close and the apocalypse comes galloping over the horizon it’s a good opportunity to look back all teary eyed at 2011. Here’s the obligatory post summarising the year past with a track selected from every month. This is the best week to go blog dredging – everyone is compiling their “best of” posts so you can find a bunch of decent tunes you may have missed without actually having to read anything. Sweet.

TECH TRIP OUT Sometimes I miss the grotesque sarcasm of record shops. Haughty staff leering over the counter at you, judging your very worth by the polythene sleeves you have in your clumsy, hopeless paws. But blessed are the record-shop staff cunts because they’re the people that might just correct your crooked, dog shit hearing and encourage you to listen to something like this.
Sublime tech-house hypnosis for a 6am spin out. Shell out your fucking cash or get out of my shop.
Another great idea from the people that brought you the Moomins and Sauna Endurance Fatalities! Finnish duo Hanannaneenlurlerewaththefuckk…..(ahem) Hannulelauri faithfully work their magic on Fete’s release “Song For Her” offering up this exquisite view of house introspection.

TECH HOUSE BURN UP It would be tech house all the way on this blog if it was remotely entertaining to write about. The music speaks for itself but the producers come across as so anodyne and anonymous there’s very little out which to take the piss. John Selway is dead good. erm….so his music….his favourite colour is….see what I mean. His probably got 4 kills to his name and runs fetish club but I’m fucked if I can find anything to work with. So why not just listen to some nice tech house. Bollocks to music journalism.
Fear Of Flying plumb deep the fathoms of house music with this immerssive dubbed out excursion. Strap on your snorkel and get ready to piss in your wetsuit. Available on Juno now.
TECH HOUSE PARTY MIX – This mixtape hoo-haa is already going rather well as I just had this slice of tech house goodness flop onto my digital doormat.
Recorded on the Pagoda stage at this years Secret Garden Party – Extra Gravity played a very tidy early evening warm up set and… what are the chances – I was THERE.
What the fuck?
I ask for people to send in mixes and I get a recording of a party which I WAS AT. Too good.
This seamless Extra Gravity mix warms the party cockles very nicely, and SGP is a party where the party cockles like to be warmed. A highly proficient, well programmed blend from laid back acid and dub grooves swelling to a tech house party. Exactly what you need for an early evening lakeside DJ set.
The evening queue for the pagoda stage was so ridiculously long I ended up stripping to my thunderbags and swimming to the dancefloor. A cracking weekend.

DRINKING ON THE DUBSTEP Having been nominated for penning “The Best Norwegian Song Of All Time” Karin Park carries a rather weighty accolade. How the fuck does a song get selected for such lofty praise and more to the point what happens to the tunes that don’t make it to first place ? Slip into total obscurity like a Mercury Award nominee ?
In years to come we can expect to see Karin Parker, destitute and toothless begging for change whilst angrily slurring:
” I…iiiiii. Mmee..IIIIII wrote the ssssecond beeesht tune offff all facking tiiimmmeee you Caaaants….”
Alas there is no second place for the best Norwegian tune in the history of the civilised world so she’s just going to have to make do with being remixed by “The Best Producer In The World Called Rupert”
