When I was yoot dem, my mother bought me and my sister the most unexpected present. One sunny afternoon, out of the blue she presented us each with a bottle of water, a packet of chewing gum and a ticket to Tribal Gathering 95.
One of the first legal raves ever held in the UK.
I was 16 and couldn’t drive so me and my sister and a whole crew of mates from Oxford cycled to what was the largest of event of it’s kind the UK had ever witnessed. Cycled.
No shit. What followed that weekend was the most exciting, profound and life changing experience I had ever encountered.
The entire course of my life changed irrevocably and for the better from that point onwards. My job, my hobbies, my friends, my lifestyle…..absolutely everything has been painted with the glorious colours of that weekend.
And I can trace it all to one precise moment when I first heard Feeling So Real, I actually lost my mind. I’ve never got it back and I’ve never bothered looking.
I also learnt that one should never attempt to eat a Full English Breakfast while of your mash on base. Especially when your mother is watching.
Gay.
